Today was certainly exciting. We had our last Artists' League meeting before the summer break and my portrait of Jerry won second prize! Here's a link to the ALOC blog with the other winners. I wasn't even going to bring it in because I felt it needed more work (still do), but Jerry said he liked it and I ought to enter it. Since I didn't have anything else I felt good about showing, I said what the heck. It just goes to show that it's hard to judge your own work. Nevertheless, I have some ideas about reworking the background cloud-like "trees" and adding some more glazes to the shadows on his face when the paint is dry enough.

CONGRATULATIONS! You should be very proud! This is a wonderful, challenging and colorful portrait.
Thank you so much for the compliment Sheila. It was a challenge for sure and I can't wait to tackle the next one. There's so much to learn.
very nice! congrats! i think you did a great job- people are`really tough, so all the better to win a prize!
Thanks Marianne. People are very tough for sure, especially on themselves. Knowing how many mistakes and problems I felt the painting had, I voted for three other paintings and was shocked when mine got an award. Just goes to show, we are oftentimes our own worst enemy.
