Thankfully the bizarre performance of Sarah Palin in the “debate” is over after much hype. She didn’t lapse into blubbering incoherence, like many were hoping for or expecting, but her obvious programming was very strange indeed. I kept looking for the tell-tale box on her back like Bush had in his debate, but I’m sure they’ve improved the technology since then. Hey, if they can put a man on the moon, they can program a ditz with no visible means of support, right? Instead of answering the questions, as is normally expected in a debate, she kept repeating GOP talking points unrelated to the topic. Her forced jocularity was off-putting to say the least and not something most of expect to see in someone vying for the VP slot in a troubled nation. It was a grand performance in cheerleading for McCain, but do we really need another cheerleader with “executive” experience in the White House? We saw how that went and we’ve been trying to dig ourselves out from under the wreckage for the last few years. Here’s a funny take on last night's performance from Abbe. Good for a laugh!

Emmy Award nomination!: Gov. Palin (and her programmer)
Wednesday
Are we all feeling secure now?
I don't usually watch Bush's speeches (something about them makes me gag.) But tonight, I just had to see how well he did on the teleprompter spelling out how dire everything was and how we needed to hand over the paltry rest of our money (or is it China's) to his Wall Street cronies to save our economy. What do you know--he failed. He was sweating and nervous and (naturally) it didn't inspire much confidence. We were told that the bailout would probably not cost us anything and we might make a profit by buying up worthless paper and holding on to it until-----um, he's out of office? Somehow, let me dig deep into my rapidly evaporating brain cells, I think this sounds familiar. Didn't we hear the same thing about the Iraq war? It would pay for itself, we were told, with the oil from a free Iraq. And how did that turn out? The only thing that I gleaned from today's news is that we might have some possibility of success in extracting ourselves from this downward spiral if we elect McCain/Palin. Sarah Palin has got an inside track with the lord through her spiritual adviser, Pastor Muthee. Pastor Muthee has got a record of exorcising witches in Kenya (don't ask, don't tell how.) Maybe Palin could install him in the White House as the Secretary of Voodoo and we could rid Washington, once and for all, of the problems of "Big Government." (I just hope your mama isn't part of it, or she could go the way of Mama Jane!)

Happy Labor Day (Go Away Gustav)
This Labor Day we watch Gustav approach Louisiana and hope that New Orleans will be reprieved of the devastation that Katrina brought three years ago. After Bush's fiasco in New Orleans, another stain on America's soul alongside Abu Ghraib, illegal war, wiretapping Americans, shredding the Constitution, on and on, it's somewhat amusing to watch the GOP and McCain scramble all over themselves to avoid further criticism of their incompetence. Instead of seeing Bush and McCain eat cake as they did when Katrina struck (above photo), I suspect we'll be treated to the spectacle of them looking sufficiently grim and worried, doing their photo ops in Louisiana while the hurricane roars. In his bid for President, McCain is trying to rewrite history about his response to Katrina and the aftermath of investigations into the corruption which hampered rebuilding New Orleans, but this link tells a different story.
Here in Florida, surrounded by hurricanes in the Gulf and Atlantic, it can't help but bring to mind the two competing parties in this years' election and the stormy campaign awaiting (as if we didn't have enough with the long-winded Democratic nomination.) The calculated move by McCain to select a totally unqualified woman such as Sarah Palin as VP is absurd and arrogant at the same time. He assumes that because he picked a woman, any woman, he'll siphon off disgruntled Hillary voters because women will vote for a woman, any woman. If anyone is disgruntled enough to vote for McCain (not many I'm sure) or not vote period because of lingering ill will, you really need to know about the VP who might one day be sitting in the White House with a McCain presidency. Check it out.
